Just a bathroom?

I love me a good bathroom probably as much as Joan Rivers loves herself a good surgeon. Whether you're taking care of business, dolling up for a night out, or just in need of some relief from out-of-town company (not that I've done this or anything)- the bathroom is point blank the most essential room in the house. Here are some gorgeous ones that I'd love to call my own:

I'd live in all of them!

Chalk It Up to Fashion

Have you ever seen a more creatively styled shoot? Photo stylist Shana Faust and photographer Roland Bello were more than on their game the day they whipped up this gorgeous spread!

Ok- forget using chalkboard paint in my kitchen. I want to use it in my closet, bedroom, etc etc etc! Just gorgeous.

Barbie by Christian Louboutin

I'm dying over this Barbie by Christian Louboutin. There are two different dolls in the collection- each complete with 4 red-soled Louboutins, shoe boxes, and bags!

Amazing!

I've Got Nothin'

Today, I've got nothing. No couture gowns. No pretty kitchens. Nada. I'm burned out. I'll be back manana.

So for now...I leave you with this:

1) My Nana said to me the other night, "Who was that on the Dancing with the Stars with his fingers in the air? The Solitude? The Solitaire?" in reference to contestant Mike 'The Situation'. This is the same Nana who refers to anything further away as "out where Christ left his sandals." I love her more than words.

2) Yesterday they were filming a robbery scene inside my bank and letting real customers in when the 'robbers' needed a water break. Only in LA, right?

OK, your turn. Anything funny/bizarre/random happen to you?

Currently Loving...

I love browsing online boutiques and seeing unique items that I'd never find in chain stores, which is why I'm currently obsessing over Canvas and their shop. This is not a paid review, nor am I affiliated with them in any way; just completely googly-eyed over their gorgeous products.

How cute are those little baby felt booties? And those turquoise place mats? Beyond love!

Writings on the [Kitchen] Wall

The past few weeks I've been debating whether or not to use chalkboard paint in our kitchen (technically it will be on a large pillar- not an entire wall), so last night I looked up some inspiration photos to give me that extra umph. Here are some of my favorites:

And if I chicken out, I like this hanging board from Pottery Barn:

What are your thoughts on chalkboard paint? I'm mostly afraid of ruining the wall if I mess up. Is chalkboard paint reversible/fixable?! Ahh- so many q's!

Bringing the Outdoors In + Glamping

I'll admit, camping is about as much fun to me as waiting in line at the DMV. I'm not a big fan of bugs, or dirt, or communal showers (really, who is? Ok, don't answer that), but I do like spending a bite-sized amount of time outdoors. Recently we've been hiking the canyons here in LA on the weekends, and I have already noticed a difference in my attraction to nature. Instead of being fearful, I feel free and actually more connected to myself. While I'm still a work in progress, being outdoors more has also drawn me to natural inspired interiors. Here are some of my faves:

Now this is my kind of camping...glam-ping:

Are you a fan of camping?!

HGTV's Chip Wade Gives 'Brunch at Saks' Design Tips

Yesterday I had the pleasure of speaking over the phone with HGTV's Design to Sell and Curb Appeal: The Block host/contractor, Chip Wade, during his media tour for Levolor at Lowes. He was gracious enough to share some great tips for accessorizing smaller spaces efficiently, how to avoid three major design mistakes while making over a room, and so much more!

*The interview was also filmed (I'm not in it- just my voice which bugs me out!) from an actual living room Chip designed, so if you would like to see Chip answer my questions, click here.

What are some ways to accent and accessorize a small space without overdoing it?

This is a great, common question I get a lot from people who live in apartments. You don't want to spend too much money because it's a temporary place, but at the same time it needs to feel like home. Getting comfortable furniture never goes out of style and can be something you take with you. It doesn't have to be the most expensive because you are going to be moving it around and there is a potential things can get damaged. But comfort is vital in a place like an apartment that can often feel estranged. Having something comfortable that makes you feel like home- those are the types of items that I always recommend for places like condos or apartments.

Reinventing a space can be overwhelming. What are the top three design mistakes people tend to make when trying to makeover a room?

One of the biggest things is color. Starting with a paint color first can often lead you down a dead end road, so start looking at the more permanent pieces like your furniture and some of your larger, more expensive accent pieces. Choose your color palate from that to pick your paint color.
Another thing people do is bringing too much stuff into a space. I know it's so, so tempting to want to pack all the things you love into one room, but it can really kill the design and functionality of the room. Leave adequate walk spaces and don't over clutter with furniture. The final thing you need to be very cognizant of is keeping things coordinated, so those pieces that you have that are costly- you want to make sure they go together so you don't have a couch that really contrasts the style. So these permanent items need to all flow together- whether it be furniture, window treatments, or paint color.

How can something as simple as adding window treatments change a room?

This room before had really ill-fitting blinds and the furniture didn't really go together, so the whole room was disjointed. Just by adding new blinds from Levolor [these are called a custom-size now blind that you can get at Lowes, cut to fit your window] it completely fills the window. Often times blinds are just too big, or just too small because they come in incremental sizes. These you can measure whatever your window is and they will cut them for you, free, while you wait, at any Lowes store. You can go there today, pick them up, come right home and have some fabulous looking, custom shades in your home. They come in a lot of different styles- also in a very dense, room darkening shade that doesn't allow for any light. They're also great for media rooms where you want to shut light out.

One of your design tips is to turn something old into something new for a practical DIY Project. What are the latest DIY trends?

There's a lot of trends- re-purposing is a huge thing that transcends beyond just turning something old into something new. You can also do things with pre-fabricated pieces that are typically less expensive, making them your own and custom for your space. In this room, this cabinet was made from the wood that was on the floor. The homeowner actually pulled these floors up, and re-purposed the nice, old hardwood into a functional media cabinet. They didn't throw them away, and they didn't go into a landfill, but rather, they created something with actual value.

Tell us about the easiest home decor improvement that can make the biggest impact in changing the style or mood of a room.

Simply adding the right type of furniture in a space can drastically change something overnight. Just like I was talking about the window treatments, which is something fast and easy you can get right at the store, you can also get custom furniture. This is a Henredon couch, that I found online, picked the custom upholstery, style, arm arrangement, and the configuration of the lounge. Whatever it is you like, you can completely customize something, order it, and have it delivered to your home. This really puts a lot of power in the homeowners hands to be very versatile and customized on a budget.

The Art of Dishware

One thing I love about dishes (besides their undying devotion during meal time) is seeing them displayed in an open cabinet or hutch within the kitchen or dining room. We all have those embarrassing mugs (read: obnoxious coworker...secret-Santa exchange...why oh why Lord did he draw my name) but outside of the occasional awful ceramic piece, dishes make a gorgeous backdrop to any space.

I love the Kate Spade Gardner Street plate!

Neutral Threads & ... K-Fed?

I was finally able to sit down and read through my stack of Bible-sized September mags last night. It was a lengthy process indeed, but I look forward to these Issues all year, so I was in heaven. Vogue and Harper's Bazaar were beyond amazing.

The best part of the fashion forecast? Beige will be on the rise this season!

For a girl who despises color in her wardrobe about as much as K-Fed hates the gym these days; seeing neutral threads on the racks brings happiness to my soul. (side note: Seriously though, K-Fed)

Ladder Love

I love the look of a rustic or painted ladder inside the home. Even if it is not functional and simply sits against a wall, a ladder brings height to any room and serves as a great conversation piece.

[photo directly above Alexander van Berge]

I like that all of these ladders are placed in different areas of the house and not just in a study or office. Does anyone have a decorative ladder in their home? I'd love to hear which room you decided to put it in.

Knits and Plums for Fall

I am so excited that September has finally decided join us. Goodbye heat- hello cool, crisp mornings and days. Fall is my favorite season by far, even if we barely get a taste of it in Los Angeles. Plus, fall.equals.layers and darker (yet warmer) tones throughout the house, which is why I loved these images styled by Indiska in preparation for the season ahead.

The layered cardi's and knits paired with deep plums and purple hues are perfect. Adore.
